Snowshoe and Cross Country Ski Equipment available at the Wapsi Educational Center in Dixon IA

Come explore the Wapsi River Center this winter, via snowshoes or cross country skis.  The Wapsi River Center has aluminum snowshoes, and cross country ski equipment which may be checked out on Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M.Quad Cities winter sports equipment is available on a “first come first served” basis. Please provide a picture ID, to check the equipment out.  The equipment must remain on site and used in designated areas. If there is not enough snow or the conditions are not ideal, and safety may be an issue, the equipment will not be available. If there is a question please call to check current conditions and availability (563) 328-3286.

Come join us for a walk in the snow at Duck Creek Park. Enjoy a guided tour of the winter landscape and wildlife along the recreation trail. If there is no snow, a nature walk will still take place. Walking is a great winter sport in the Quad Cities! Pre-registration is required  to reserve snowshoes.

Please register by 1:00 PM the Thursday before class February 7!

Frozen Landing Family Ice Rink is home to one of our favorite Quad Cities winter sports- ice skating!

The rink, at Middle Road and 23rd Street, is open to all ages and ability levels. Daily admission is $1. Skate rentals are available for $2 for both children and adults. Light concessions will be available for purchase.

No hockey is allowed on the rink.

Hours of operation are:

  • Monday: 1:30-9 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 3-9 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 1:30-9 p.m.
  • Thursday: 3-9 p.m.
  • Friday: 3-10 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
  • Sunday: Noon-6 p.m.
  • Holiday hours Jan. 20 and Feb. 17 will be noon until 9 p.m.

    Hours may change depending on the weather. Frozen Landing may not be open because of rain, snow accumulation of 2 inches or more (until the rink is cleared), if temperatures are above 50 degrees, 5 degrees or below, or if the wind chill is -15 degrees.
