Valentine’s day is just around the corner. Moms work hard enough so take an idea out of here to make your Valentines Day with the kids special and fun. You can do these with things I am sure you have at home and no need for winter coats or face masks.
Start your day off with a Valentines breakfast. Warm up your pancake griddle and whip up some batter. Have the kids help you with making the heart shapes or dyeing the batter with festive colors. Serve with whipped cream and strawberries for a festive red, white, and pink themed breakfast.
There are an endless number of crafts online that use only the supplies you have at home. We found an easy idea on Pinterest to make our own candy heart banner. We made large heart shapes and the kids each wrote a fun saying in the hearts. We attached the hearts on string and its hanging in our dining room to we can feel the love all February.
You can never go wrong with making cookies. Heart shaped cookie cutter, red icing, fun-colored sprinkles. Anyone can have a good time decorating. Make extras and spread some joy to your neighbors.
If your missing friends or family, the host a virtual Valentines party. Set a time and send out an email. Have everyone decorate their backgrounds. Dress is valentines’ colors and show everyone the cookies you made. You could even all decorate cookies over the video chat. There are endless ideas that can work for any group that gets together.
I love to mail handmade Valentines cards. It means so much to open an envelope that has so much love and hard work put into it. You may not be able to see grandma and grandpa this year but sending a card in the mail spreads the cheer. Grab whatever construction paper you have laying around, cut out spaces and let the kids do the work. Most important is to make sure you mail it off in time.
If you’re stuck inside a treasure hunt is always fun. I used this idea to tell my kids I was pregnant with our 5th baby. Get pieces of paper and have fun rhyming the clues. If you need some help, Etsy has great premade cards that you can print off. At the end of the treasure hunt, put a little valentine treat. Hard work pays off, especially when there is candy and the end.
Wrap up your evening with a movie night. Snuggle up on the couch with the whole family, pop some popcorn, turn on the fireplace. Disney plus has great movies for the whole family, whether its Lady and the Tramp or the Mandalorian. You can unwind and relax while spending the day with the people that mean the most in your life.
I really hope that you have a wonderful Valentines day. Share the love with your family and friends and letting the kids get involved with fun activities always makes them happy. Plus, it’s great pictures for the scrapbook. If you do any of these ideas or have your own, reach out and share with us on our Facebook or Instagram.
