faith based christian quad cities summer camps 2021

FAITH BASED CAMPS

Spirituality comes naturally to most kids. From a young age, they feel a connection to other living creatures. They have no trouble believing in things they can’t see, and they’re intrigued by God and religion. Preschoolers think it’s fun to say grace before a meal, and grade-schoolers eagerly speculate about whether the gerbil will go to heaven when he dies.

But that doesn’t mean kids really understand what religion is all about. Centuries of experience have shown that a strong spiritual foundation can be central to a happy, purposeful, and ethical life. Quad Cities Summer Camps which reinforce that spiritual foundation are what we feature here.

You may be a born-again Christian, a practicing Muslim or a reform Jew. But whatever your conviction or denomination, you should think about the spiritual values you want to pass on to your child—and explain them in a way he can understand.

Practice what you preach. If you plan to have your kids attend Sunday school, go to church regularly yourself. If teaching goodwill toward others is important, don’t just say, “God wants you to be kind to other people”—hand a sandwich to a homeless person, or welcome a new family to the neighborhood.

Even if you’re ambivalent about organized religion, getting involved with a church, temple, or mosque will help provide your child with guides and companions for his spiritual journey. As will signing your child up for a faith based camp.

Different groups of people see God in their own way. But all faiths agree on one thing: You should treat other people just the way you’d like to be treated yourself. Helping your child to learn that mantra will help change the future.

Pine Lake Camp, while located near Eldora, Iowa, is considered a Quad Cities summer camp as it’s a nice drive. It features camping experiences for kids of all ages. Most camps are one week long from Sunday through Friday. Youth camps are designed to encourage growth in all areas of a child’s life. We believe that a good camp experience will foster a love for God, personal confidence, life long skills and friendships that last for years to come, all in a caring and safe environment.

Choose Your Camp

At Pine Lake we never like to do the same thing twice. We call it age specific programming.  Your kids will call it,“Even more fun than last year!” We offer camps that are created specifically for your child’s age group while constantly seeking out new and exciting ways to have fun.

Note: Camp registration is based on grade completed.

Theater and Art camps quad cities

THEATER AND THE ARTS

Art, theater, and music are critical for our youth. Whether they are exposed to the arts and music in school or through private or community classes and lessons, the benefits are incredible. Quad Cities Summer Camps for theater, art and music exposure does more than provide a creative outlet for kids; they provide mental, emotional, and educational benefits — and more. Music boosts young brains. Art inspires kids to excel in and out of the classroom. Research has shown that participation in music at an early age can help improve memory. This may sound like an obvious benefit, but the effects of enhanced creativity will extend to many aspects of your child’s life.

Children develop innovation skills when they’re encouraged to express themselves and take risks in creating art and playing music. Those skills can open doors later in life; 72% of employers say that creativity is the number one skill they look for when hiring. It’s not always team sports that teach important social skills; playing an instrument and participation in theatrical productions can help, too. The experiences in theater and music groups and ensembles at Quad Cities Summer Camps help kids develop important life skills such as teamwork, leadership skills, discipline, and how to relate to others. As kids develop skills in the arts and music, and improve those skills through repetition and practice, they build confidence in themselves.  Sign your child up for a theater or art camp today!

Art for everyone is a beautiful thing, and you’re going to find that at Mrs. B’s Quad Cities Summer Camps:

Science Technology engineering and math camps quad cities

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

STEM learning focuses on science, technology, engineering and math to build children’s critical thinking skills and sense of curiosity. This field of education presents real-world scenarios that kids solve with a hands-on approach.

With the world becoming an increasingly complex place, it’s important for children to grasp STEM concepts to prepare themselves to participate in the future workforce and to understand how technology works. Beyond the practical applications, it’s just plain fun!

From baking a cake to the  measuring how much rain we got last night, STEM activities pervade our children’s every day lives.

STEM learning provides many benefits for kids that they use every day. They learn how to apply their knowledge to solve problems that occur in their lives, like fixing a broken toy or figuring out how to build a perfect LEGO castle. They also learn about their environment, from pets at home to the plants in their backyard. An open-ended, curious approach encourages kids to think outside the box and collaborate to work toward a solution.

Developing critical thinking skills is an important part of growing up. Kids must learn how to evaluate information and figure out how to use it. STEM learning helps children to get better at using the technology that powers the world, which is particularly useful for preparing them for their adult lives. Sign your child up for a camp or two to help capitalize on these very important skills.

CAMPS TO GET YOUR KIDS OUT IN NATURE

As a child, you probably spent a lot of time playing outside, getting dirty, and coming home happy. Maybe you watched spiders catching flies in your backyard, climbed treeon your street, or simply lay in the grass observing the drifting clouds. Unfortunately, children today do not have as many direct experiences with nature, and it’s taking a toll. Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder, tells us that this disconnect from the natural world is producing ill effects in both mind and body. But he’s optimistic that well-meaning, forward-thinking parents like you  and educators can close the kid-nature gap. “We should not think of a child’s experience in nature as an extracurricular activity,” says Louv. “It should be thought of as vital to children’s health and development.”

He is clear that the research suggests that a connection to nature is biologically innate; as humans, we have an affinity for the natural world. When children spend most of their time indoors, they miss out. Problems associated with alienation from nature include familiar ailments such as depression, obesity, and attention deficit disorder. Kids who have direct access to nature are better learners. Exposure to nature has been shown to reduce stress and increase attention spans. Make sure you’re offering oppotunities to get your children out in nature.

“When a child is out in nature, all the senses get activated. He is immersed in something bigger than himself, rather than focusing narrowly on one thing, such as a computer screen. He’s seeing, hearing, touching, even tasting. Out in nature, a child’s brain has the chance to rejuvenate, so the next time he has to focus and pay attention, perhaps in school, he’ll do better.

But even if kids don’t have any of the specific problems mentioned above, kids who don’t get out much lack the sense of wonder that only nature can provide. I’ve taken kids into the woods who’ve never been there. At first, they’re scared because it’s unfamiliar, but then you can see them open up and start exploring,” says Louv.
